Oooh to the Cassandra one, yeah. I had thought for years that being better at foresight would make me more able to stave off the inevitable. The great frustration of my thirties was that this was not the case.

do you mean: everyone is interested in what the charismatic person is doing, so the other people never get the chance to talk?

No forgiveness is needed :-) and I don't mean that so I'm glad to clarify. I mean that the charismatic person is more talked-about and noticed and remembered, so when there are several people in meetings/dinners/conventions/online communities/etc., there's a dynamic of unequal learning and remembering, even if everyone has a chance to talk.

I often find that the better I understand something the more difficulty I have explaining it, as though my mental models are too far from box-central.

Oh yes, THAT reaction .... remind me, have you read Nancy Kress's Beggars trilogy? One of the most "oh THAT would be nice" pieces of tech in the story is a way to put one's mental models on a screen and translate them into someone else's thought-design style, sort of a memex plus a universal translator.
