a podguessing discovery
Jan. 17th, 2022 09:46 amThis morning we were podguessing the word "fresh" and came across "Fresh Text," one of the many podcasts out there that do a systematic Christian Bible study.
The three exclamation marks charmed me enough that I tried listening to the first bit of a sample episode. In a discussion of the story of Zaccheus as told in scripture versus as told in a children's song, one person notices that the song mentions that Zaccheus is short but not that he is a tax collector, and says, "If all we had was the song, though, and we didn't have the text, then we would read, Jesus cares about wee little men. Jesus cares about short people. Which is true." The "which is true" addition struck my funny bone.
Fresh Text is a weekly podcast in which Pastor-scholars discuss a scripture passage and swap sermon starter ideas. This weekly podcast is especially (though not exclusively) useful for preachers who follow revised common lectionary. But we hope it would be edifying and/or enjoyable for any listener!!!
