To me it feels like Comey's statement mentions the door by the clock multiple times to indicate *which door* to the Oval he or others used, which is a way of saying which other offices, corridors, sites of power, etc. were or were not involved.

Also I really should not put time into filking "My Grandfather's Clock" like a 2017-era Mark Russell -- maybe the Capitol Steps are already on the case.

The guy was a teen during Watergate and he's been a federal-level public servant at super high levels for so long -- I wonder whether a ton of people at that level are artists with memos who have Nixon-era documents and testimony echoing in their heads when this kind of stuff comes up. It does make you wonder if there might be memo collections published at some point the way there are short story collections published - a well-crafted memo is an asset that keeps giving.
