The lack of online discourse is interesting. I've had the experience of watching Chinese films - often with my martial arts peeps - and coming out extremely disturbed by the political undertones, but so far, even when my MA peeps have been pretty oblivious to my concerns, there's always been a pretty lively online discussion of those exact issues (usually even in English, though the Chinese write ups are often more entertaining). Though, to be fair, I've been doing less of that recently, being surrounded by fewer MA peeps and watching fewer movies on the whole.
