I recently saw and loved the new movie The Big Sick and shared some thoughts about it on MetaFilter. Kumail Nanjiani is just so consistently excellent. Some of my favorites among his standup routines: on Benjamin Button, on Call of Duty: Karachi.

Thanks for the info! I had thought this was just a "girlfriend in a coma" movie. I'm glad to know there's more to it.

I don't really know anything about Kumail Nanjiani or his body of work, but it turns out that he went to my undergrad school, and people who were just a few years ahead of me in school knew him back then and can't say enough good things about how great a person he is, which makes me want to check out his work -- so thanks for these pointers!

(Edit: Oh, and he gave the commencement speech this year! Which I'm now about to watch.)
